We woke up in Las Cruces, New Mexico on the day of Ashlyn & Chris’ Adventure Session and knew that we wanted to submerge ourselves into nature and really appreciate the essence of the town. First on the to-do list was to find a mom & pops coffee house for cup of pick-me up. What we didn’t know when we walked into this quaint little coffee shop was that we would meet the sweetest locals who would then fill us in on the best views we could find in town. We took our breakfast burritos (because breakfast tacos, are apparently, only a Texas thing) and our coffee, and started our hike into the mountains on a quest to find the most peaceful place to munch on our breakfast. Once we reached our peak, we soaked in the sun as it rose over the mountains. We felt this overwhelming sense of calmness. It was the perfect beginning to such an epic day.
After breakfast, we adventured a bit more (exploring caves and even a little rock climbing) before making our way back to the hotel room to start the getting ready process! While Ashlyn was getting pampered with professional hair and makeup by Glam on Demand, we jammed out, hydrated & caffeinated, and had a little ladies time.
Photoshoot time! Before we took off on our next adventure (the actual session, this time), we gathered with mini liquor bottles we purchased at the gas station. A cheers, a shot, and some grossed out faces later, we shook off all of the photoshoot nerves that might have been lingering. In order to get to dunes that were un-touched (no footprints), we had to do a little hiking through the sand. We found a spot that gave us this surreal feeling as if we were in another world. The beauty of The White Sands truly set in as we stood alone on the sand dunes with the mountains as our backdrop. It was finally time to play and just enjoy this process. Ashlyn and Chris pranced across dune tops, played in the sand, twirled each other around, and laughed like they had never laughed before. It was a sunset to remember…forever.
We wrapped up our session by celebrating with margaritas at a local Mexican food restaurant, (some chips and queso for Ashlyn because that’s all she wanted after dieting hard core leading up to the session, haha). Oh…you’re up for a night time star photo??? DUH! Drove back out to the mountains and actually finished up our session with a beautiful moment under the stars.
